NYSC Threatens To Shut Niger Camp, Says It’s Worst In Nigeria

NYSC Threatens To Shut Niger Camp, Says It’s Worst In Nigeria
The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has threatened to shut down its orientation camp in Niger state due to infrastructural decay and shortages.

The threat was issued by its Director General, Brigadier General, Suleiman Kazaure, while fielding questions from newsmen after inspecting the camp on Thursday, November 22.
Kazuare described the orientation camp, which is located in Paiko, Paikoro local government area of the state, as the worst in the country, adding that repeated appeal to the state government to carryout facilities upgrade at the temporary has not yielded any result.
“This is the worst NYSC orientation camp in the country, and I will not hesitate to close the camp.”
“I have been to all the orientation camps in Nigeria but this is the worst in the Federation and the facilities are grossly inadequate.
“The hostels, toilets and everything are inadequate and dilapidated. I met the governor on several occasions, on the state of affairs in the orientation camp in the state, and, till date, nothing has been done,” he said.
The DG further pointed out that it is the constitutional responsibility of every state government to provide a decent orientation camp for corps members posted to such state, adding that Niger fell short of meeting this mandate.
“Constitutionally, every state in the country is saddled with the responsibility of taking care and maintenance of the NYSC orientation camp in its domain”.
“The facilities are grossly inadequate, the hostels, toilets and everything are inadequate.
“We are not closing the camp yet; we will give the government a benefit of the doubt for sometime, to see what will happen. But, he should know that Niger camp is the worst camp in the federation.”
